    Hey Kings & Queens!

Let’s talk about how to find work as a freelance copywriter.

Freelance copywriting offers multiple freedoms, including the opportunity to work on diverse projects, setting your own rate, and ultimately choosing the type of clients you want to work with.

However, the challenge lies in finding your first gig or maintaining a steady flow of work. In today’s competitive landscape, it takes a mix of traditional outreach and modern strategies to stand out.

Let’s explore some proven ways freelance copywriters can find work, including the powerful approaches of sending cold emails and direct messages (DMs).

    1. Leverage cold emails

Cold emailing is one of the oldest yet still effective strategies for landing freelance jobs. When done right, it can help you get in touch with potential clients and set yourself apart from others who are vying for the same gigs.

    2. Direct Messaging on Social Media

With the rise of platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter, sending DMs has become a popular and quick way to connect with potential clients. Social media allows you to bypass traditional barriers and directly approach decision-makers.

    3. Online job boards and marketplaces.

Online job boards and marketplaces are the modern, yet most effective, way for freelancers to find jobs on platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, Freelancer, and PeoplePerHour. While these platforms are competitive, they provide an opportunity to get initial gigs and build up your portfolio.

    4. Networking and referrals

Building relationships with freelancers and professionals in your niche can open doors to new opportunities. Attend virtual networking events, join copywriting or freelancing groups on social media, and don’t hesitate to ask for referrals from past clients.

    5. Pitch to Agencies.

Many agenciesā€”especially digital marketing and advertising agenciesā€”outsource their copywriting needs to freelancers. Compile a list of agencies you’d like to work with, then send them a personalized cold email or DM explaining how you can assist their team.

    Final Thoughts

Finding work as a freelance copywriter requires a proactive approach. Cold emails and DMs offer direct, effective ways to reach potential clients and showcase your value. Pair these outreach methods with a solid online presence and a strong portfolio, and you’ll be well on your way to landing consistent freelance work.

However, the two best ways to find work as a freelance copywriter are Fiverr & Upwork!

I have a question, and this is it; I created a FIVERR ACCOUNT, last month and I was asked to pay $5 before my gig can be published, I want to know if FIVERR now charges $5 lately for newbies to create gig?

      Hey IFEANYI,

There are no direct charges for simply posting gigs on the platform. However, the platform takes up to 20% commission for every successful order as their service fee.

For every gig you sell, Fiverr deducts 20% from the total payment. So, if your gig is priced at $100, Fiverr takes $20 which is a fair game.

It’s a win-win for both you and the platform.
